Firstly, I’d like to start by saying thank you!

Thank you for showing interest in my specialty! My love and passion for curly hair started when I was a little girl. I had tight curls and had my first relaxer when I was 6 years old. Like many other curly girls, I felt like I didn’t have any other options for my hair. I wanted to learn more about my curls but I didn’t know where to start. When I was 14 years old I did the “big chop” and started my curly journey! It was the best decision I could’ve made with my hair! Within the same year I went to a vocational high school where I was blessed with the opportunity of getting my cosmetology license by the age of 17. This was during the height of the natural hair movement and the boom of curly hair salons. I dedicated myself to becoming educated and specializing in all curls.

I took many curly cutting courses such as Deva, Rezo, Cut It Kinky, etc. I mentored under multiple curly stylists, and I continue to take classes multiple times a year to ensure that I am keeping up with new information to perfect my craft. I have always wanted to create a safe space for individuals with curly hair. I especially want clients with tight curls to always feel confident in my chair. As a curl specialist it is vital to learn all textures from a loose wave to a tight curl. Curly cutting is not just one technique. I use multiple techniques depending on my client’s goals.

Curls By Joy is a brand that is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, and luxurious space for anyone with curly hair. I also want all of my clients to not only feel confident in my abilities, but also their own. During my appointments I always make sure to thoroughly educate my client on tips and tricks they can use at home.

This is more than just a brand. Curls By Joy is hoping to create community and luxury services for clients who have always felt like their hair hasn’t been properly cared for by professionals.

It’s a space to celebrate our naturals selves! A space to celebrate each other! And finally, a space to educate ourselves on what practicing healthy hair care looks like.
